Team Information

Becoming a Shark

Any Klahanie resident in good standing that meets the following requirements may join.
  • Must be at least 5 years old and not older than a graduating senior in high school
  • Must be able to swim 25 meters of continuous freestyle and demonstrate minimum proficiency in backstroke
  • Must, as a family, be willing to volunteer to help with swim meets, team management or be willing to pay additional fees to cover costs.
Non-Klahanie residents over the age of 11 are welcome to join, subject to space availability. Non-Klahanie families also pay an additional Facility Usage Fee.

At registration you will also need to provide deposit against your family’s volunteer commitment. This deposit will be returned to each family at the end of the season after it has been confirmed that the volunteer commitment was met. Families that do not work the required volunteer hours will forfeit their deposit.

Swimmers who are new to the Klahanie Swim Team must attend the swim team tryouts held at a specified time and pool. Swimmers will be asked to show that they can swim 25 meters of continuous freestyle and demonstrate backstroke for some minimal distance, such as the width of the pool. Coaches will observe each swimmer and determine whether he or she is ready for swim team.

Shark Practice

To prepare for the first meet, daily practices begin in mid-May, before schools let out for the summer. This means during the early part of the season, practices are held each weekday after school. Once the Issaquah School District lets out for the summer, practices are moved to the morning.

Practice schedules will be posted, both at the pools and on this web site. Both Klahanie pools are used for practices and swimmers won’t always be in the same pool. Because there is limited time for practice, all swimmers need to be ready to get into the pool at their appointed practice time. Plan to come to practice to work hard and improve your stroke, stay positive and have fun.

Parents should avoid talking to the coaches during practice. If you must talk to a coach, do so before or after practice.

Shark Season

Daily after-school workouts start in mid-May and dual meets will begin in mid-June.

There are five weeks of dual swim meets and one week of championship meets. All swim meets conclude by the end of July. Check the meet schedule for days and locations. Get directions to away pools.
